OUR MISSION

Acting Together for the "Other" Black Women is an program dedicated to providing culturally competent and trauma-informed support to survivors within communities of color, immigrant communities, and more specifically, French-speaking demographics, addressing their unique needs and barriers.

ADVOCACY

CULTURALLY TAILORED PHONE SERVICES

24/7 Hotline: Available via phone, WhatsApp, and Telegram, ensuring accessibility even for those without traditional phone services.

Translation & Interpretation Services: Acting together offers multi-lingual services as well as translation 

TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE & SAFETY PLANNING

Providing transportation to emergency housing, ESL classes, legal appointments, and support groups 

Creating individualized escape plans and emergency protocols to protect survivors from further harm

EMERGENCY & TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Assistance in relocating survivors to safe housing

LEGAL & ECONOMIC SUPPORT

Referrals for legal representation assistance with Protection Form Abuse (PFA) orders,

Help navigating immigration services,

Job placement, and financial literacy training

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE 

Connecting survivors to financial aid and employment resources to reduce dependency on abusive partners

CRISIS INTERVENTION & COUNSELING

Immediate emotional and psychologic support for survivors including in-person visits and phone consolations

PROMOTING HEALING & EMPOWERMENT

Our focus is encouraging survivors from French-speaking cultural backgrounds to recognize and respond to domestic violence through education, skill-building, and collective support by strengthening the role of wise mothers and engaging both men and women to create a sustainable support network. 

MEN AND YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

We are incentivized to challenge harmful gender norms and involve men in supportive roles such as transportation and community education.

BUILDING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE

Our focus is encouraging the community to recognize and respond to domestic violence through education, skill-building, and collective support by strengthening the role of wise mothers and engaging both men and women to create a sustainable support network.

WISE MOTHER PROGRAM

Older women from the community act as trusted mentors, offering moral support, advocacy, and direct trauma-informed assistance.

SUPPORTING SURVIVORS

We provide individualized, trauma-informed care that prioritizes safety, autonomy, and well-being ensuring no woman has to navigate her journey alone.
